LP - Bitchin Bajas - Water Wrackets (w/ DVD)
As a score for very special a re-make of Peter Greenaway's early short film "Water Wrackets", Cooper's Bitchin' Bajas project has presented us with an astonishing soundtrack that so aptly fits the name. Shimmering synth passages that gurgle up and down like gentle waves being spattered with trickling rain as cascading movements of somber rhythms wash over the listener for the entirety of this masterful recording. We've been long time fans and supporters of pretty much everything Cooper has been involved with musically and he never fails to deliver the goods. This one is especially suggested for fans of: Eno, Klaus Schulze, Harold Grosskopf, Tangerine Dream, and the like (we could keep going). We now feel it appropriate to turn things over to Kallistei Records to further explain this fantastic and very RECOMMENDED endeavour:
"It appears that the best-guarded secret of the past year is out. Last summer Cooper Crain of Bitchin Bajas was asked to score a remake of the classic short film "Water Wrackets" (1975), originally directed by legendary British filmmaker Peter Greenaway. This March, artists/filmmakers Gabrielle Gopinath and Benjamin Funke (Captcha Records) will be releasing the fruits of this labor on their new fine art label, Kallistei. After viewing a 30-second clip of the upcoming film, Cooper composed a dreamy and luminous score to accompany it, a trancelike soundscape of forlorn beauties and strange vibrations that builds upon the legacy of minimalist icons like Terry Riley and Steve Reich. The interplay of soundtrack and image in the film is haunting, reminiscent of the synergy that emerged from '70s collaborations like that of Riley and experimental auteur Bruce Conner. The creative process becomes manifest in startling and unexpected ways when someone this talented digs deep into the conceptual substrate. The depth of Cooper's past practice informs the perfect harmonies he crafts on this recording; the results are beautiful and intriguing in the extreme."
