Tin Huey keyboardist/guitarist/vocalist Harvey Gold goes it alone for this 2 song single from 1977 (assisted by pal Stewart Austin on drums) entitled Experiments. The A-side is a fairly faithful but slightly different version of the John Cale solo tune I Keep A Close Watch (from his 1975 album Helen Of Troy) that retains all the melancholy and yearning of the original but laces it with a whiff of Akron weirdness (the guys covering Cale solo stuff IN the Seventies - MAJOR kudos for that!). The B-side is anything but - a mellow Bowie-influenced Hunky Dory-era acoustic guitar/synth groover (maybe with a touch of early Zappa too with its stutter stops and tempo shifts - dude is in Tin Huey after all). Sweet stuff - we done STRUCK GOLD with this one!
