LP - Conrad Schnitzler - Convex
Self released by the prolific Schnitzler in 1982, Convex seems to meld the early free form soundscapes of early Tangerine Dream and Kluster (he was an early member of both groups) with the minimalism that permeates his early 80’s output, creating sparse vignettes that evoke electronic modernism mixed with cold war paranoia. Much more akin to the work of early electronic pioneers such as Ruth White and John Cage than any of his “Kraut” contemporaries, Convex finds Schnitzler eschewing conventional melodies and opting instead to compose moody atmospheric pieces that almost serve as audible diary entries, which, like a sunset, conjure feelings and emotions nearly impossible to articulate with words.
