LP - Fun Country - Welcome To Fun Country
I haven't written a record review in a hot minute, but Fun Country recently performed at the Permanent Records Roadhouse and floored me. Lucky for us, they still had some copies of their self-released 2018 LP "Welcome to Fun Country" and boy is it SMOOTH. Mostly instrumental sexy-funk with a certain je n'ais ce quoi that don't feel fully qualified to describe. That said, if yr in the mood for some off-kilter soothing jazz-funk, this is the record for you. Country it is not. It's not, not fun, but it is super enjoyable in an ultra-laid back poolside relaxing way. At first I thought of it as a guilty pleasure, but I'm starting not to feel so guilty about it. Just weird enough for anyone still skeptical at this point, but mostly just incredibly accessible white-boy California soft funk, on milky clear vinyl. - Lance (Permanent Records)
